Thank you Santa for giving me a cold for Christmas. It is the best present you have ever brought me. Now that I have used up all my energy that I had stored for most of the day by doing absolutely nothing until a few hours ago I am going to take my bottle of nyquil and this box of tissues and go curl back up in my bed...

oh but I really liked the other presents you brought me...but I am kinda confused- why would you give me the complete series of Angel and then also a Vampire Slayer Kit???

I love the holidays…being with family and friends. Giving and receiving gifts and love from those around you. I am a kid at heart- Wishing it would snow on Christmas, and hoping that Santa brings me lots of great toys and other presents that I can enjoy. God I am greedy. I still “believe” in Santa Claus and that on Christmas morning if I have been a good girl Santa will leave me a present (even if I buy it myself and put it under the tree and say From Santa).

My sister and her new husband are discussing how they will handle the holidays in the future with their son who is 18 months old. My family has the tradition of opening family gifts on Christmas Eve and having our stockings and “Santa” presents on Christmas Morning where in his family they hid all the presents and brought them out Christmas Morning.

I can see the point both ways. I personally just think it is more special to have the presents you bought each other out of the way so that on Christmas morning, if you have little kids they get the whole impact of Santa came and brought me presents (if you want your kids to believe that). Because you are start the night knowing no presents are under the tree and the idea and anticipation that Santa will come visit while the kids are sleeping and leave them presents. And of course the cookies and milk you leave out for Santa will be partially eaten or gone in the morning.

Me personally? I would love my kids to believe in Santa, the Easter Bunny, ToothFairy, and countless others. Who I am I do dash their hopes annually until they themselves can choose to believe or not. It’s the magic and the spirit of the idea that gives it such wonder.

In the twinkle of the light and the powder white snow (damn it SNOW already). It’s about the fun of making that “wish” list and hoping above hope that something you got on it will be under the tree Christmas morning. It’s about knowing that most of the family will be gathered here and wishing that the rest were safe and home with us. (Bradley we miss you and you better keep your ass safe over there in Iraq). Looking forward to decorating the tree and baking the cookies.

Even at 25 there is some sort of wonder to the holidays for me and I hope it never ends.

Holiday Movies

16:28 Dec 14 2009

News Reporter: Today, children everywhere are making preparations for an event of world shaking significance: the annual visit of Santa Claus. Informed sources report that legions of junior citizens are making monumental efforts not to cry and not to pout. Meanwhile, letters by the thousands have been flooding postal facilities at the North Pole. (Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town)

As I look up various Christmas themed movies for the contest I am surprised on how many I remember, or how many are cheesy. I am by far not saying I don’t love them, but for example yesterday I was watching a few movies on Lifetime- and the stories were overly mushy and made you think that even in the season of miracles things do not happen like that ever. I do believe certain things can happen when people look to the positive, but there is always overdoing it.

There are a few cartoon Christmas movies you watch every holiday, that make it feel a little more like Christmas. You know the ones I am talking about- The Grinch, Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, and of course the beloved Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town.

Of course some of my favorites are Gremlins, Lethal Weapon, Die Hard 1 and 2…just to name a few. I have to admit I prefer more of the not so jolly holiday movies even though I am a sucker for movies like It’s a Wonderful Life, A Christmas Story, A Christmas Carol (I like Scrooge) and a few others.

Jingle All The Way always makes me laugh. But I also think it brings in a good point of the holiday a few movies ever touch. As he searches for that elusive Turbo-man it parallels what people really do go through on Christmas…yeah it has a happy ending but the retail side? Where people are rude, pushing and pulling and fighting over the last item…it is reality. People think that Black Friday and that weekend is bad- The few days before Christmas are far worse. While most people are in a festive and happy mood, there are the people who only see the bottom line, that they get the things they want and will do anything to get what they want and damn anyone who gets in there way.

–but I am getting of track of my purpose of being all happy and in the Christmas spirit-

I realize I just forgot Home Alone…what is it about Kevin McCallister and his antics that make me think of Christmas? Or Charlie Brown Christmas?

But whatever your favorite holiday movie, there is a reason year after year we watch them and wonder- What is it about someone trying to make Christmas so special that warms my heart or the hearts of millions of others?

Spiders...EWW!!!

16:23 Dec 10 2009
Times Read: 636

I am very thankful for my friends around the world when I find myself unable to sleep at night. I always have someone to talk to no matter the hour if I need it. And last night I needed it.

I couldn't sleep for the life of me. I was tired but not sleepy. And as I am about to finally drift off to sleep (after telling my friend that if I go silent on yahoo it is because sleep finally overcame me...or my phone has died) i feel something crawling on my neck. Now as I am about to drift off into dreamland I think, it's just my imagination...NOPE

A big ass spider is crawling on me. So i flick it off and it gets lost in my blankets where I successfully hunt it down and kill it dead. Of course now I am paranoid...so I have to search every inch of my blankets, bed, walls, ceiling, and anywhere else I can think of.

And of course I also usually have no issues with spiders in my room unless I am talking to this particular friend (Love you Izzy)

And wouldn't you know I can't go back to sleep. Which is a good thing cause Jay called about 2am...although the dumb ass asks me when I answer "you still awake?" I answered my phone didn't I? Aww i love him

*cries* some days I just want to bang my head against the wall or murder little children...okay no murdering the kids but...( I love children really) usually one of them is a hellion each day...1 of 3 I can handle but today? All 3 of them were driving me up the wall...

and I missed a phone call from Jay this morning :(

*sighs* I will call him tonight when he gets home from work- need to remind myself to set my alarm so that I can wake up to call him. I miss him so much sometimes. I wish things were different but they aren't. I think of how cold it is here right now and think I could handle SD even if I hate the cold...but then look at the temperature and am like it's 20ish degrees cooler there HELL NO...but I would do it for him...if he asked me to.

15°

OMG I am freezing. Doesn't matter that there is a nice big fire blowing warm air throughout the house...nope. Just the number makes me chilled to the bone, where no heat seems to be able to penetrate.

I know i shouldn't complain but jeez...It hasn't been this cold for a while. At least give me snow if it is going to be cold. For some reason with snow it doesn't seem as cold as it is.

And I know it is colder elsewhere...it's just unusual for it to be this cold here. Oh but we are supposed to be back up in the mid 40's next week sometime...

Brad left this morning to go back to Iraq. It was great having him home for Thanksgiving and the wedding and I hate the thought of him going back.

But he should be home from his tour in April. And he doesn't know if he is going to volunteer to go to Afghanistan or not next September like he planned to.

*sighs* oh well we shall see...he just needs to stay safe
